Karaburun with 4×4 Roof Tent – Wild, Remote, and Totally Worth It
Let’s be honest—Karaburun isn’t for everyone. It’s rocky, remote, and barely touched by modern life. But if you’re the kind of person who gets excited about dirt roads, sleeping under the stars, and finding a beach all to yourself… then yeah, this might be your new favorite place.
I recently tackled Karaburun with a 4×4 roof tent, and I’m still thinking about it. No Wi-Fi. No shops. No stress. Just me, the sea, and a campfire.
So… What Even Is Karaburun?
Think of Karaburun as Albania’s forgotten peninsula. It stretches out near Vlora, surrounded by deep blue water, cliffs, and not much else. And that’s the charm—there are no hotels, barely any signs, and definitely no smoothie bars.
You’ll need a serious vehicle to get in there. The roads are more like rocky trails. But with the right ride? You’re in for a proper adventure.
👉 I rented a fully equipped 4×4 with roof tent from Camp Drive Rentalbania. Honestly, it made the whole trip possible. Everything I needed was packed on top of the car.
Where I Camped (And Where You Should Too)
I drove in from Orikum, aired down the tires, and took the road as far as I dared. My favorite spot? Gjiri i Dafinës. Quiet. Stunning water. Zero other people.
Here are a few solid places to pitch your rooftop tent:
Gjiri i Brisanit – Calm waters and soft light at sunset
Shën Vasili Beach – A bit of a challenge to reach, but unreal
Anywhere you find flat ground and a view, really
Note: No facilities. Bring your own everything—especially water. And please, leave no trace.
Why a Roof Tent Is a Game Changer
I used to be a ground tent kind of camper. Never again. The roof tent from Camp Drive was a breeze to pop open, kept me off the rocks (and bugs), and gave me a killer view in the morning. Plus, when you’re tired, you don’t want to fumble with poles and pegs.

Extra Tips I Wish I Knew Beforehand
Fill your tank in Vlora—once you’re in, there’s nowhere to stop.
Pack a headlamp, not just your phone flashlight.
Don’t go solo unless you’re confident with off-road driving.
If it rained recently, skip it—the road turns to mud fast.
Want to make it a loop? Combine Karaburun with a drive through Llogara Pass, then dip down to Himara or Qeparo. It’s a perfect 3–4 day escape from the usual tourist path.
👉 For route ideas, Camp Drive Rentalbania’s trip suggestions helped me map the whole thing out.
Karaburun’s not polished. It’s not easy. But that’s the whole point. If you’ve got the wheels and the guts, this might just be the most unforgettable place you’ll camp in Albania.
